What Actually Is Family Yoga?

Playful, story-based movement designed for children (usually ages 4-13) and their adults to do together. Less about perfect poses, more about moving, connecting, and having fun.

Sessions include games that incorporate yoga poses, partner poses that build trust and connection, stories that guide the movement, and moments of rest (though kids' rest looks different to adult rest).

Different teachers bring different approaches. Some focus on specific age ranges. Others mix ages and adapt on the fly. Most use themes, stories, or games to keep kids engaged.

The common thread: it's about connection and joy. Kids learn body awareness and emotional regulation through play. Adults get quality time with their children that's active and fun.

Sessions are typically 45-60 minutes. Suitable for ages 4-13, though siblings outside this range often join in.

Why Family Yoga Helps

You want quality time with your kids that isn't screens or rushing around. Something active that they actually enjoy. Space to connect and play together.

Family yoga gives you that. Kids burn energy, learn body awareness, and practice emotional regulation through movement. Adults get to be playful and present with their children.

It's also great for kids who struggle with traditional sports. No competition. No pressure. Just moving in ways that feel good.

People come for active family time, helping kids with energy or anxiety, building connection, or because their kids love movement and play.

What to Expect

Expect noise. Laughter. Kids being kids. This isn't quiet, still yoga. It's active, playful, sometimes chaotic in the best way.

Your teacher will guide games and activities. Partner poses where you lift your child or move together. Stories where poses become characters. Moments of calm (ish) at the end.

Some kids will be into it the whole time. Others will need breaks or do their own thing for a bit. That's fine. There's no pressure to participate perfectly.

After, kids will be tired in a good way. You'll have had fun together. You might learn some poses or games to do at home.

Who Family Yoga Is For

Families who want to move together.

Suitable for children roughly ages 4-13, though younger siblings often join. One adult per child (or small group of siblings) works best. Grandparents, aunts, uncles all welcome - any adult who wants to spend active time with a child.

You don't need yoga experience. You don't need to be fit. You just need to be willing to play and move with your child.

Move Together in Different Ways

Family Yoga gets everyone moving, but there's more ways to connect through movement. Explore other classes that work for different ages and energy levels - some more playful, some calmer, some that build strength while you're having a laugh. Movement that brings you together, whatever suits your crew.
