Reflexology
Your feet are a map of your whole body.
Pressure on specific points affects corresponding organs and systems. It sounds odd. It works.
Not a foot massage. Targeted therapeutic work that creates change throughout your body.
What Actually Is Reflexology?
Therapy that applies pressure to specific points on your feet (sometimes hands or ears) that correspond to different parts of your body.
Your reflexologist uses their thumbs and fingers to work systematically through these points. Where they find tenderness or grittiness indicates areas of imbalance or tension in the corresponding body part.
Different practitioners work with slightly different maps and techniques. Some focus more on relaxation, others on specific health conditions. All work with the principle that the feet reflect the whole body.
The common thread: it's specific, therapeutic touch. Not a general foot rub. Your reflexologist is feeling for what your body's holding and working to release it.
Sessions are typically 45-60 minutes. You stay fully clothed except for shoes and socks.
Why Reflexology Helps
You're holding tension in places you can't reach with massage. Your body's out of balance in ways you can't quite name. You need something that addresses the whole system, not just where it hurts.
Reflexology works systemically. Pressure on foot points affects circulation, lymphatic drainage, nervous system function. It helps your body remember how to regulate itself.
People come for digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, stress, poor sleep, chronic pain, or just general feeling off. It helps by supporting your body to function better overall.
What to Expect
You'll sit or lie comfortably whilst your reflexologist works on your feet. They'll apply firm pressure to specific points, working systematically through zones that correspond to different body areas.
Some points will feel tender. That's where there's imbalance or congestion in the corresponding body part. Your reflexologist might spend more time on tender areas, working to release what's stuck.
You might feel sensations elsewhere in your body as they work - warmth, tingling, release. That's your body responding to the treatment.
Most people drift into deep relaxation. Some fall asleep. Both are fine. Your body is integrating the work.
After, drink water. Your body has been stimulated to release toxins and rebalance.
Who Reflexology Is For
Anyone whose body needs rebalancing.
If you're pregnant (especially in first trimester), let your reflexologist know - some points are avoided. If you've got foot injuries or infections, wait until they're healed. Otherwise, reflexology is safe and beneficial for most people.
You don't need a specific condition to benefit. Sometimes you just know your body's not quite right. That's enough.
Practices That Work Together
Reflexology complements other holistic practices. Combine with massage for physical release, Reiki for energetic work, or regular sessions to support ongoing health.
